What is an ESD?

Brazos County Emergency Service District No. 3 is an emergency services organization and a political subdivision of the State of Texas, much like school districts or municipalities. The governing statute for an ESD is Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. There are more than 350 ESD’s in Texas.

County tax revenues provide a stable funding source and are used by the ESD to contract with other entities, hire emergency personnel, and purchase necessary equipment and facilities. The presence of an ESD may result in a better insurance  rating within the ESD service area and help to reduce insurance premiums for businesses and  homeowners.

ESD3 is overseen by five Commissioners appointed by the Brazos County  Commissioners Court.
